Jerry Springer Leaves "America's Got Talent"

The TV personality steps down from his hosting job on the hit summer show.

Jerry Springer will not return as host of the NBC reality show "America's Got Talent" this summer, The Hollywood Reporter says.

"I've had a wonderful time serving as host on 'America's Got Talent,'" Springer said on Thursday in a prepared statement. "These last two seasons, working with everyone associated with the show and all the extraordinary and talented performers across America, has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me."

So why is Springer on the outs? Apparently he's got a busy summer in store. "This summer, I will be pursuing a wonderful opportunity in the theatre. That, coupled with my syndicated talk show leaves my plate more than full and thus, I will not be returning for season four."

Springer has not revealed any details on his stage plans, the BBC reports.

Springer served as host of summer's most-watched show for two seasons, replacing original MC Regis Philbin. He was offered the hosting gig after his 2006 stint on "Dancing with the Stars" won him a newfound viewers' affection, The Associated Press says.

According to E! Online, there's no word yet on who will take up the vacant position. However, some bloggers have speculated that judge David Hasselhoff might be a good replacement.
