Jerry Seinfeld's donation of the Puffy Shirt is now in the Smithsonian.

Who knew that one day Seinfeld would end up in a museum? Well, not Jerry himself, but rather the famous Puffy Shirt from his television series.

"This might be the first joke inducted into the Smithsonian Institution," said Seinfeld at the donation ceremony Thursday night.

The noted comedian donated the Puffy Shirt to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. The show that is "about nothing" has been a part of pop culture since its nine season run. It won ten Emmy Awards and was picked as TV Guide's Greatest Show of All Time.

The shirt made a one-time appearance only on the television show in episode 66. Some of you may be wondering why Seinfeld would wear such a ruffled pirate-looking shirt. Well, it was the episode where Kramer, played by Michael Richardson, was dating a "low talker." Her voice was too low for Jerry to understand her so he kept nodding at what she was saying. What Jerry agreed to was to wear the shirt on the "Today" show. The shirt was on air for around five minutes, but is now forever part of American television history.

There are very few physical pieces from the hit show that could have been donated. But when it came to picking an item to add to the museum, what better than the Puffy Shirt? The shirt sits in the Smithsonian along with: the ruby slippers Dorothy wore in "The Wizard of Oz;" Archie Bunker's chair from "All in the Family;" and Kermit the Frog.
