Jessica Simpson Performs Show for Charity

The country crooner belted out tunes for a children's cancer survivors.

Jessica Simpson performed a show Sunday afternoon and for once it wasn't at a state fair! The ditzy Texan performed at the 18th annual Celebrate Life with Hope event in front of around 2,000 pediatric cancer survivors, reports People. Proceeds from the charity event benefit the Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. The day's events were part of National Cancer Survivor's Day and are the fundraising event for the organization in the Western United States, according to the magazine.

Simpson performed four songs and had an on stage meet and greet with audience members after her short set. "To give back is my sole person in life," said the singer, explaining why she became involved with the charity. Afterward Simpson was signing t-shirts and hanging out with the kids.

In an awkward twist of fate, the event's planner Mindy Weiss was the wedding planner for Simpsons wedding to Nick Lachey. Weiss said that the county singer was "sweet" to the children. "She was so nice and warm. All the kids were getting a day out and the little ones were looking up to her, it was just really touching."
