Jill Scott Sued by Record Company

Scott has violated the terms of her contract.

Jill Scott is breaking up with the record company that claims to have discovered her in 1998, according to TMZ.com. After satisfying only half of her contract with Hidden Beach Records, Scott is being sued.

In the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Hidden Beach claims they signed the three-time Grammy winner to a six-album deal in 1999. After completing only three albums, Scott told the company through a letter in 2009 that she was “moving on.”

Hidden Beach claims that when they first signed Scott they were “rolling the dice and betting everything it had on an unknown talent” and that they are “deeply saddened” by her premature departure.

Hidden Beach Records is suing for an unspecified amount.
