Jane Carrey is proving she’s more than just the daughter of a famous celebrity.
Carrey, 24, the daughter of funnyman Jim Carrey, appeared on Sunday night’s American Idol and showed off her talent.
Carrey, who is a waitress in Los Angeles, said having a famous father was both good and bad when it comes to trying to make it in the music industry.
"It was definitely fun growing up with him as a father, he's not the most extravagant celebrity so it's been fairly normal -- fairly. Everyone growing up has their issue with identity and trying to find themselves," she said. "It is difficult kind of growing up in the shadow of something and trying to find your place in the world under the huge shadow. The last name definitely helps and hurts, I feel like there's kind of this pressure to maybe be better, because if I make it somewhere, I run the risk of people saying 'Oh you only got there because of this.'"
Revealing her father knew she’d audition, Carrey gave judge Jennifer Lopez a blast from the past. According to MTV News, she worked with Jim Carrey on In Living Color as a Fly Girl.
“I remember you when you were little,” said Lopez. “You were so little. You were a baby. Oh my god, when did this happen?”
Carrey sang Bonnie Raitt's "Something to Talk About" and won over the judges.
“I like the voice,” said Randy Jackson. “I like the potential.”
“I like the sound of your voice,” said Jennifer Lopez, adding that she needed to work on connecting to the audience.
“You got good melody, but you got to work on the volume," added Steven Tyler.
Carrey got three yeses from the judges and called her dad with the news.
