Jim Jones and Bow Wow Booted from Sony?

Rappers Jim Jones and Bow Wow may get kicked off the Sony Music Entertainment roster.

Rumor has it that rappers Jim Jones and Bow Wow have been dropped from Sony Music Entertainment, according to ThisIs50.com.

After Jim Jones released "Pray IV Reign" on March 24 through Sony-owned Columbia, he may already be a free agent. Sony reportedly spent $4.7 million promoting his product, but the cost-benefit proved to be far below profitable.

Despite the success of "Pop Champagne," which peaked at number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, the album sold just 43,000 copies in its first week and plummeted to number 40 on the Billboard 200 the following week.

To date, he has not reached 100,000 sold, while his previous album, "Hustler's P.O.M.E.", which was released through the independent Koch Records in 2006, moved slightly over 100K in its debut.

Despite starring in a Broadway play, being on shaky terms with Dipset founder Cam'ron, and getting arrested late in 2008 allegedly for assault, his album barely made a ripple in terms of SoundScan.

Bow Wow, however, has a longer history with Columbia. He released his 2000 double-platinum commercial debut, "Beware of Dog", through the label, and has been signed ever since.

He has recorded a total of six albums with Sony, but his latest album, "New Jack City II", which was released on March 31, has been his biggest commercial failure. It debuted at number 16 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and sold an embarrassing 30,000 copies in its first week. The album was such a flop that he supposedly decided to retire from the rap game.
