J.J. Abrams’ second Star Trek film has started out like a typical Abrams project. That is, the film has been under very tight wraps and little is known about the project. We know that Benicio Del Toro is being looked at as the potential villain for the film, but other than that, little is known. Now, there are reports that another new actor is joining the cast. Alice Eve is reportedly in talks to play a major role in the film.
According to The New York Post, the actress, who appeared in the last season of Entourage, is currently in the negotiation stage. Paramount refused to comment on the story, though.
Variety reports that I Am Number Four’s Teresa Palmer also tested for the role, but Abrams picked Eve. Sources told Variety that while Del Toro’s character will be known by Trekkies, Eve’s character will be new to the Gene Roddenberry-created universe.
Eve’s other past credits include She’s Out of My League and Sex and the City 2. She is also set to appear in Men in Black III and is currently working on Decoding Annie Parker with Helen Hunt.
Abrams’ first Star Trek film, starring Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock, was released back in 2009, making over $380 million worldwide, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The new film is scheduled for a May 17, 2013 release. The script is by Abrams’ usual collaborators, Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof.
