Joaquin Phoenix: Hip-Hop Artist
Actor-turned-director, Casey Affleck, has created a mockumentary starring actor Joaquin Phoenix that is set to be released this September.
The film is entitled I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix, which was picked up by Magnolia Pictures in May. In the film, we will see the star’s strange transformation from Oscar-nominated actor to self-proclaimed hip-hop artist.
According to nme.com, Casey Affleck, Phoenix's brother-in-law, has been following and filming the actor since 2008. When presented to Magnolia Pictures, president Eamonn Bowles had much to say.
“No matter what I thought coming in, I came out feeling this was a pretty amazing piece of work, jaw-dropping but dimensional. It is going to get a lot of attention, but it is not some cheap stunt where they said, 'Let's do some wild stuff and film it.' It is extreme behaviour but really good filmmaking as well. Frankly, some of the behaviour is very extreme. But it is in the context of the insanity of being in Joaquin's life for that period of time. It is a unique piece of work that is going to surprise people in different ways," says Bowles.
In the film, one of the many graphic scenes is Phoenix snorting cocaine off of a prostitute’s breast. Back in October of 2008, the actor announced his retirement from acting. Now, he is developing his hip-hop career and is being managed by P. Diddy.
