Joe Jonas plans to have a catch up date with Demi Lovato away from "all the craziness"

Former couple Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato, who dated in 2010, prove ex's can be friends.

According to Us Weekly, Jonas, 22, and Lovato, 19, met up at the 2011 Video Music Awards on August 28, where they hit it off all over again.

Jonas, who said at the time of their breakup in 2010, “I love her as a friend. She's been there for me when I needed her. I will continue to be her friend and be there for her,” proved they still have positive feelings toward one another, despite the breakup and rumors he was partly to blame for Lovato’s breakdown.

Those rumors were put to rest when she revealed her struggles were with an eating disorder, self mutilation, depression, and a bipolar diagnosis.

"I wouldn't credit my meltdown to a guy," Lovato told ELLE in August. "There was so much other stuff in my life."

The reunion between ex's proved too short. Jonas says he and the “Skyscraper” singer plan to have a catch up date somewhere a little more private than an awards show very soon.

“She’s really sweet. I got to see her, and we got to catch up a little bit on the carpet,” Jonas told KISS 108. “We’re going to try and find another time and not in all the craziness of the red carpet to be able to catch up. I’m happy to see that she’s doing well, and it was good to see her again.”
