Johansson and Portman star in new film

The two starletts discuss their costumes and other elements of the new film.

According to the Associated Press, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson starred in the film "The Other Boleyn Girl" which premiered Friday at the Berlin film festival.

Portman plays the character of Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's second wife while Johansson plays her older sister, Mary, who was the king's mistress before he married her sister.

The movie is based on the book by Phillippa Gregory and is directed by Justin Chadwick. Sandy Powell helped design the beautiful costumes and has won Oscars for her work on "The Aviator" and "Shakespeare in Love."

Johansson expressed her thoughts on the intricate costumes by saying they helped remind her of the constant restrictions women faced during that time period. She said such bodily restrictions changes the way people interact. Portman said she thought the costumes were helpful in creating the characters but in the end, human emotion is the element of the film that transcends time.
