John Cleese's Mum Woes

Comedy legend feels his relationship with his mother was no laughing matter.

Monty Python star John Cleese recently lashed an acid, humorous tongue when talking about his deceased mother, Muriel, saying that the two had a strained relationship at best, WENN reports.

Cleese, who was at a fund-raiser for England's Bristol Zoo on Thursday, spoke ill of his late mother who, much to her son's chagrin, lived till 101 years old. When she died in 2002, Cleese quipped that he was relieved to be rid of a woman he called a "dreadful" parent.

"I did have a dreadful mother," Cleese admitted. "Isn't that a terrible thing to say? But it's true."

And the ministry of silly walks actor didn't hold back. "She was classically self-centered. Always though of herself," he recalled.

"She lived to 101," Cleese reflected. "I thought I'd never get rid of her."
