John Mayer pays TMZ $25,000 in a bet
John Mayer lost a rather charitable bet to TMZ over a photo. Singer and guitarist John Mayer made a bet with TMZ founder, Harvey Levin. He challenged TMZ to produce a mug shot from when Mayer was arrested back in 2001 for driving with a suspended license. If they could, he would donate $25,000 to a charity of Levin's choice. As a pet lover, Levin chose two animal rescue organizations, Pet Orphans of Southern California and Ace of Hearts.
Mayer seemed to take the loss well, posting, "well done, TMZ, but the real winners today are the puppies," on his twitter page, according to MTV. Although The Smoking Gun was the first to find the picture, TMZ reaped the benefits. Mayer even posted an image of the two checks as proof of the bet. MTV also shared that the incident began when news that Patrick Stump from the band Fall Out Boy was arrested for the same thing popped up all over the Internet.
