John Travolta yet to reconcile with his son's death

Denzel Washington says he tries to help the grieving actor.

According to Denzel Washington, John Travolta is still struggling to cope with the death of his son, MSNBC reported.

The two co-star in the upcoming remake of "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3," which is releasing on June 12. Travolta has chosen to stay away from all promotional activities for the movie. Washington attributes this move to the loss of his son, Jett Travolta, 16, in January.

Jett died unexpectedly, after a seizure, while he was vacationing with his family in the Bahamas. His mother, actress Kelly Preston, was also present at the moment.

"One moment he's OK and the next he's in tears. . . . Needless to say, he's struggling," Washington said at a press conference.

"So more than talking to him, I listened to him, for about two or three hours," Washington said.

Travolta's healing process is "going to take time," he said. "What can you say, really? Just be there as a friend, because he's such a sweet, sweet person. Our prayers are with him and his wife."
