A French rock singer is in a medically induced coma.

Johnny Hallday suffered from complications after having surgery on a slipped disk in Paris. Currently, the 66-year-old is in a coma at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, reports the LA Times.

His publicist informed BBC hat he is expected to be better soon and leave the hospital by next week.

President Nicholas Sarkozy was worried about the French star but happy that he is expected to improve soon.

"I was happy to hear that he was getting better and I'm sure that all French people will want to express their best wishes for a quick recovery," Sarkozy said, reports ABC News.

Hallday, although not a major name in areas other than France, has found wide success in this country. He has sold more than 100 million records and gone on 400 tours.

The surgeon who performed the botched surgery on Hallday was attacked on Friday, reports BBC. Two covered men punched and kicked Dr. Stephen Delajoux late on Friday. The surgeon is now coping with a chest injury.
