Philo offers exclusive badges for Video Game Awards live show

Philo, the growing social media platform allowing users to check in to their favorite television shows, is joining Spike TV this weekend for a special promotion of the Video Game Awards. Together, Philo and Spike formed exclusive badges that viewers can win upon checking in to the show — these badges are associated with the 13 premieres of much-buzzed-about video games in 2011.

Along with the virtual prizes that are fun and give bragging rights, those checking in during the Video Game Awards will be automatically entered to win an XBOX Kinect pack of signature VGA paraphernalia — perfect for the everyday collector and those fans of all things video games.

This year, How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris will host the show, adding another notch to his emcee resume, which also includes the Emmys, Tonys, TV Land Awards, and even the World Magic Awards. Is there anything that entertainment’s beloved NPH is not an expert on?

Harris is no stranger to the land of video games, having lent his voice to characters in titles like Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. The executive producer of the awards show told reporters that Harris is a big gamer, and “video games are taking over the world and Neil is perfect to lead the ‘VGA’s’ in celebrating the best of the year and the future of gaming.”

The Video Game Awards are set to announce some of the hottest releases for the next year, including Batman: Arkham City, Resistance 3, and Thor: God of Thunder. In addition, the show will unveil information regarding the debut of Guillermo del Toro’s video game, Gears of War. Del Toro is most known for his film directing credits, which include Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy. Gears of War will be released by Studio of the Year nominee BioWare.

Airing live on Saturday, Dec. 11 on Spike TV at 8 p.m. EST, the Video Game Awards’ presenter lineup is an eclectic group, including cast members of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (Danny DeVito, Kaitlin Olson, Rob McElhenney), Halo: Reach star and VGA Nominee Nathan Fillion (Castle), Thor: God of Thunder star Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Olivia Munn (Iron Man 2), Annalynne McCord (90210), and professional skateboarder Tony Hawk.
