Jon and Kate Plus 8 - Farm to Table
Kate explains that before the family moved, during the summer she would go to her friend Henry's to pick up fresh organic produce and make dinner with the vegetables that night. With some encouragement that Henry grew the vegetables, she managed to convince the children to eat their vegetables at a young age. She decides to bring the children to Henry's Amish farm. While the Amish tend to have reservations about taping, Henry agreed as long as the cameras didn't face him.
The children immediately admire the large watermelons and touch some of the fresh produce. Henry announces to Kate that they had one more child, bringing their family to seven. Kate jokes around that they still need to reach eight. Kate remembers her visits years ago and it makes her nostalgic.
Kate wonders what produce to select. The children scream at Kate, refusing eggplant parmesan. She decides to go with chicken cacciatore and starts to pick some green peppers. The kids get excited after finding corn. She thanks Henry and Linda; she appreciates the family because none of them watch TV, so she's just Kate.
While the family drove back, they found an old park that they used to visit. For nostalgia's sake, Kate decided to stop and let the kids play around. The kids run off and play through the wooden mazes. After the heat tired the kids, Kate wrangled the kids back into the van.
At home, the kids shucked the corn while Kate made the chicken cacciatore. Her babysitter helped supervise, but Aaden still throws a husk at Cara. In the kitchen, the twins learn how to use the dishwasher and Kate is appreciative of their help. She lets Cara and Mady attempt cutting the peppers and tomatoes. Kate loves the idea of fresh organic vegetables at the table.
Cara wants to have an instrument performance and starts to gather instruments. This upsets Mady who wants to play as well. Cara throws a fit in front of Kate. She tries her best to mediate, but there just aren't enough instruments to share. Cara tends to bottle her emotions and they tend to explode. After kicking Mady out, Mady decides to throw some controversy and play in front of Cara. She explodes again.
After long cooking time, it's finally time for dinner. Kate loves the idea of farm to table and the meal turned out great. Kate realized that she's gotten into a routine that she's finally getting to. She doesn't want to be pitied any more.
Mady reminds Kate that Cara's foot is a problem. She decided to call for an appointment and they managed to fill in a spot that night. Kate had already planned a game night so the babysitter brought Cara to the pediatrician.
The children go down to the basement and they decide to play Gator Golf. The ball doesn't fully make it in so Kate helps the balls up the ramp of the gator. The family also plays Pictureka! Mady threw a fit when she couldn't find pieces. This sparked an idea for Kate that they could have stations.
As Kate sends the kids upstairs to clean up, she gets a call from the doctor that Cara still has a bruise. Kate decides to bring Cara to the doctor that night to get it checked further to make the next day easier. Cara explains that she twisted her foot when she was running up the stairs. Although Kate was tired, she wanted to make sure that she got everything completed after her custody was over.
