Jon Bon Jovi, front man for the rock group Bon Jovi, was recently the target of an Internet rumor that claimed that the “Livin’ On A Prayer” singer had died. Bon Jovi took to the band’s Twitter page to joke about the rumor, posting a picture to prove that he was alive and well.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the rumor started on Monday, when a blog posted a story titled “International Rockstar Legend Jon Bon Jovi dead again at 49.” The story’s content was actually copied from the Los Angeles Times story about Michael Jackson’s death in 2009. The newspaper insists that it was not a part of the false report and is investigating the incident.
Bon Jovi and the band performed their Monday night show in New Jersey without a problem, although Bon Jovi actually made several references to the rumor during the performance, reports The Star Ledger. He reportedly quoted Mark Twain, saying that reports of his death have been exaggerated.
Bon Jovi was not done poking holes through the story though. The band’s Twitter page posted a picture of him in front of a Christmas tree and holding a sign that says “Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey.”
“Rest assured that Jon is fine! This photo was just taken,” the post also read.
People reports that Bon Jovi was not the only celebrity that the Twittersphere thought was dead. After North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il’s death was announced, several people believed rapper Lil’ Kim had died.
