Jordin Sparks Calls Non-Virgins "Sluts" at MTV Awards Show
Jordin Sparks may be outspoken about her personal values, but that doesn't mean she's going to be nice about them. According to Entertainment Weekly, the American Idol winner, who stood up for the Jonas Brothers after comedian Russell Brand blasted them for wearing promise rings, has said she does not regret using the word "slut" in reference to people who don't wear a ring.
At the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sparks, who also sports a ring to symbolize pre-marital chastity, took the stage in defense of the Jonas trio, the NJ Star-Ledger reported. "It's not bad to wear a promise ring because not everybody - guy or girl - wants to be a slut," she reminded the audience.
According to MTV, Sparks denied any "hard feelings" towards Brand, who kept the purity mocking as a theme throughout his host routine. The two reportedly joked and laughed backstage after the show.
Sparks's own comment, however, spurred its own immediate controversy. "I wish I would've worded it differently - that somebody who doesn't wear a promise ring isn't necessarily a slut - but I can't take it back now. It was a split-second thing, and it came out kind of wrong. Still, I don't regret it," she told EW.
