Joseph Brooks Accused of Rape

Brooks faces 25 years in prison if convicted.

Joseph Brooks, the Oscar-winning songwriter and director behind "You Light Up My Life" has been accused of rape. The charges are that he lures women to New York City and raped and sexually assaulted them.

The 71-year-old Brooks pleaded not guilty on Tuesday. The case was in Manhattan's state Supreme Court where Brooks has a 91-count indictment that accuses him of rape, criminal sexual act, sexual abuse, assault and other offenses. If convicted of first-degree rape, Brooks faces up to 25 years in prison.

The nine women that are accusing him are from Portland, Oregon, and Seattle areas and the others were California and Florida.

Prosecutors state that Brooks uses his Hollywood credentials on the Craigslist to make ads Websites to attract 11 women aged 18 to 30. His ad sought attractive young women for a starring role in a movie.
