Joss Whedon to Lead 'The Avengers'
Bringing together some of Marvel’s biggest superheroes for one movie seems like it could be one of the most daunting tasks in recent film history. According to Deadline, Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon is up for the task. The director is reported to currently be in final negotiations to helm the highly anticipated film adaptation of the comic book series The Avengers.
As of now, the impressive cast list includes Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr., Captain America’s Chris Evans, Thor’s Chris Hemsworth, and Samuel L. Jackson (who plays SHIELD’s Nick Fury in Iron Man) are already signed on to star in the new film. The Oscar nominee Ed Norton may also reprise his role as The Incredible Hulk.
Although Whedon has produced solid TV work, his only feature film was the underrated sci-fi film Serenity. Although the film received solid reviews among critics, it failed to really impress at the box office.
In addition to directing the highly anticipated Avengers, Whedon will also add re-writes to the film’s script. It is currently expected to be released in early May 2012.
