Joss Whedon continues to let the projects pile up. His major film of 2012 is The Avengers, but that is clearly not enough for the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Fans of his work already know of a low-budget adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing that has already been completed. His next work will be a supernatural romance titled In Your Eyes that will star Mad Men’s Abigail Spencer.
Spencer told New York Magazine’s Vulture about In Your Eyes at the Art of Elysium gala in Los Angeles on Saturday. "His next movie, I start that next month," she said. She added that she was excited to work with Whedon for the first time, but would not go into details about the plot. "It’s the most romantic film in the history of time. It’s a supernatural romance,” she said.
According to Deadline, Whedon had first hinted about the film in October when it was announced that Much Ado About Nothing was made. Whedon reportedly wrote the film’s script and will produce.
Monday afternoon, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Spencer is attached to the project, which will be directed by Brin Hill and co-produced by Whedon’s wife, Kai Cole.
In Your Eyes will be made under Whedon and Cole’s Bellwether Pictures, which launched with Much Ado About Nothing. Bellwether is dedicated to producing films with a “micro-budget,” according to the Reporter.
Whedon is currently working on post-production for The Avengers, which is due out in May.
Spencer’s other recent projects include appearing in Cowboys & Aliens. She will also star alongside Gerard Bulter in Of Men And Mavericks, This Means War with Chris Pine and Resse Witherspoon and Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great And Powerful, which stars James Franco. Vulture also adds that she is preparing to work on Wrong Number, a film she wrote.
