Julia Roberts has signed on to play the evil queen in one of three competing Snow White films.
Roberts will star in Relativity Media’s modernized version, set to be directed by Tarsem Singh (The Cell), according to Reuters.
Relativity describes the outline of the Brothers Grimm remake as a “modern tale full of comedy and adventure,” with Snow White, along with her seven dwarfs, seeking revenge after her stepmother kills her father.
Filming on the untitled project begins in April, and the studio has announced a June 29, 2012 premiere date.
Charlize Theron is rumored to be in talks to play the evil queen in Snow White and the Huntsman. The Universal film is also believed to be in talks with Kristen Stewart and Viggo Mortensen to fill the lead roles, USA Today reports.
The third remake, from Disney, is set in 19th century China.
