Actress Julia Stiles revealed that she loved playing a serial killer in the fifth season of Dexter.

Stiles, who played a rape victim that found solace in killing, said that she was a little hesitant before taking the role because she was afraid she wouldn’t be as memorable as John Lithgow’s Emmy-Award winning role in the fourth season

“My one hesitation was that his shoes are big ones to fill,” she said. “If I thought too much about how great he was and how much the fan base really responded to his work, I would have been paralyzed.”

After getting over her fear, however, she was able to dive in and enjoy her character.

“I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the kill scenes and the sacredness of them,” she revealed. “As a fan of the show I felt very privileged to be a part of it.”

Be sure to catch the sixth season of Dexter when it returns to Showtime on October 2.
