July Is National Ice Cream Month

Today, Americans everywhere are celebrating National Ice Cream Day, which is smack in the middle of National Ice Cream Month.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared today, July 19, National Ice Cream Day. It's a fitting date, considering the International Dairy Foods Association selected July as National Ice Cream Month.

A National Eating Trends Services survey determined that among those various flavors, the top five preferred by Americans were: vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, strawberry and chocolate chip mint.

Incidentally, according to http://www.fayobserver.com/Articles/2009/07/19/916878 >the Fayetteville Observer, on average, each American eats 21 quarts of ice cream a year.

For those who want to celebrate but are watching their weight, http://www.examiner.com/x-7386-Nashville-Healthy-Food-Examiner~y2009m7d1... >Examiner.com has discovered three tasty treats that won't ruin a diet. Slim-a-Bear Vanilla and Chocolate Sandwiches and Skinny Cow French Vanilla Truffle Bars are a mere 100 calories each, while Edy's Slow-Churned Rich and Creamy Coffee Ice Cream rings in at a marginally higher 105 calories per serving.

So, every American can obey President Reagan's call to "observe these events with appropriate ceremonies and activities" without scruple.
