Juno Knocks Down Alicia Keys
The film soundtrack for "Juno" has reached the top of the national sales chart, according to The Los Angeles Times. The four Oscar nominations "Juno" received last week helped increase its album sales by 13 percent to 65,000 copies that week. NielsenSoundScan reports the total number of copies sold to be over 250,000.
In more "firsts," Billboard says "Juno" is also the first soundtrack from an Oscar-nominated film to climb to No. 1 since "Titanic" did it in 1998. The album is also the first soundtrack to top the chart since the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack ranked No. 1 last year. Finally, "Juno" is also the first No. 1 album for Warner imprint Rhino.
The indie-rock-focused soundtrack for "Juno" has pushed Alicia Keys' album "As I Am" down to No. 2 on the charts. Last week, "As I Am" had 60,000 copies in sales, and the album's total sales figure since its debut in early November is over 2.8 million copies.
