Justin Timberlake Will Climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Global Awareness
To bring awareness about the global water crisis, Justin Timberlake, Lupe Fiasco and Kenna will climb Mount Kilimanjaro in the fall. Access Hollywood reported about the trio's plans to climb the mountain in Tanzania, Africa.
According to MTV, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest point in Africa, with its 19,000 ft. peak.
Timberlake recently told GQ magazine that he has been training for the trek up the mountain. "I've been training four times a week to get my VO2 [oxygen consumption] levels up to expand my lungs," he said. "We'll climb for a week straight, carrying 30 pounds on our backs. It's going to be intense, but it's going to be so rewarding."
For the singer Kenna, this hike touches a more personal note. Access Hollywood is reporting that in a recent interview with Elle magazine, the singer said his "dad died as a child from waterborne disease in Ethiopia" and talked to him about excavating a well there. "I thought, 'I have too many friends who would be concerned with the subject of clean water. Maybe I can help out," he said.
Fiasco, MTV.com reports, joked that he was participating in the climb to beat Kenna. "Sabotaging his tent, taking his lining out of his coat, lacing it with ants or something like that," he said.
"We're going to be ready for it," Timberlake told GQ.
