Kanakaredes to Leave ‘CSI: New York’ After Six Years

CBS loses another star in 'CSI' franchise

Melina Kanakaredes, one of the stars of CSI: New York, has announced that she is leaving the show after six years.

CSI: New York, one of a handful in CBS’s CSI franchise, began in 2004. “I made some amazing and lifelong friendships during my six seasons on CSI: NY and I will treasure them forever,” Kanakaredes said in a statement.

While CBS has said it had hoped she would stay for another season, the station has also wished her the best in her future endeavors. Kanakaredes may be replaced Sela Ward (Once and Again), however nothing has been confirmed yet. Shooting for the seventh season begins on July 28 and the show will air in its new time spot, Fridays at 9 p.m., beginning in the fall.

Kanakaredes' decision follows several other departures on CBS. A.J. Cook of Criminal Minds will leave the show after her character’s story is finished early in the upcoming season. Additionally, Liz Vassey and Eddie Cibrian have been released from their respective roles in CSI and CSI: Miami.
