Kanye West Puts on Concert for Public School Students

Kanye West puts on a private concert for Chicago public school students who improved their grades.

Rapper Kanye West returned to Chicago to perform a private concert for public school students who improved their grades and attendance, on Thursday.

The "Second Stay in School Benefit Concert" was put forth by the Kanye West Foundation. The Kanye West Foundation is a non-profit organization that works towards reducing dropout rates and improving literacy rates, according to MSNBC. Before performing, Kanye West had something to say to the 3,000 students who attended, "Take every opportunity you have to make your life as successful as possible."

Chicago has a dropout rate of almost 50 percent. Foundation CEO Joseph Collins and school district officials believe it can be decreased by raising awareness and encouraging students—although the concert was the first step, according to MSNBC.
