Kasey Kahne to Drive for Hendrick Motorsports

Dale Earnhardt Jr., four-time Sprint Cup Champions Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, and Mark Martin currently drive for car owner Rick Hendrick and Hendrick Motorsports. Soon, that will change.

In 2012, Kasey Kahne will begin driving the car that Mark Martin will vacate in 2011, the No. 5. But what Kahne will do in 2011 is still unknown. What Mark Martin will do is also unknown. Though he will vacate the No. 5, Martin will not retire in 2011.

"In Kasey, we saw an opportunity to cement a big piece of our future." Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, told ESPN. "He possesses incredible talent and a tremendous dedication to his craft, and we know he'll be a great fit within our company.”

Kahne’s contract is up with Richard Petty Motorsports at the end of the current racing season. He has been racing for Petty for seven years.
