Kate Gosselin appeared on the Today show earlier this week and spoke about the end of her career on TLC’s Kate Plus 8.
The single mother of eight described that she would like to continue working on television, because it provides more opportunities for her children versus her nursing job she kept before she was in the public eye.
In response to her ex-husband, Jon Gosselin, telling her to return to a normal life – away from cameras – Kate told Matt Lauer, "It's a situation where Jon may be accepting of mediocre for his kids and working a regular job. I want the best for my kids and the best opportunities, not unlike every parent. I think that to be a good parent is to work as hard as you can and give them the best opportunities in life, and [our show] has provided that."
She added, “The best opportunity for all of us would be for me to continue to work in TV as a way to provide for my family.”
After the backlash, however, Gosselin took to her Twitter account to clarify what she meant by the comments.
“2clarify re 'mediocre' — I meant this job is not a career acc 2 jon but tv is 4 me &is hard but will prov best opps 4 my kids vs nursing!"
People reports that during the series finale of Kate Plus 8, Gosselin admitted to her faults. "Am I rosy and peachy and splendid all the time? I think everyone in this room could say no," she admits. "Sometimes, over two days of shooting for one episode and I have three crabby Mommy moments, well, it's guaranteed you're going to see them all in a 22-minute show. So, of course, that makes it seem like I'm crabby Mommy all the time."
