Kate Winslet May Achieve Oscar Gold
Actress Kate Winslet has been nominated for five Academy Awards, but astoundingly has yet to win. But that may all change come next Oscar season. According to USA Today, the actress may finally get a gold statue due to her upcoming roles in the films, The Reader and Revolutionary Road, which reunites Winslet with her Titanic costar, Leonardo DiCaprio.
Winslet claims herself to be quite lucky to have gotten to play these roles, exclaiming, "I'm so lucky to play both of these women in my lifetime, let alone in less than a year. It doesn't even add up that one person should have gotten to play both of these parts. It truly rocks my world."
The Reader, due out on December 10 after being pushed up from the original expected 2009 release, stars Winslet as Hanna Schmitz, a woman who falls in love with a teenage boy who reads books to her. Her character, however, has many secrets about her past as the film spans a 35 year period. The Reader was directed by Stephen Daldry and costars Ralph Fiennes.
Revolutionary Road, due out the day after Christmas, reunites Titanic stars Winslet and DiCaprio, who play a married couple struggling with adjusting to the norm of the 1950s. The film was directed by Winslet's husband, Sam Mendes, and is already expected to draw a large audience.
After three Academy Award best actress nominations for Titanic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Little Children, and two supporting actress nominations for Sense & Sensibility and Iris, it may finally be Winslet's turn to take home a statue.
