Kate Winslet’s vacation in the Caribbean endured a frightening early morning fire.
The actress, her boyfriend, and two children were awoken when the house they are staying at in the British Virgin Islands was engulfed in flames Monday morning. Along with Winslet and her family, were 16 other guests who escaped the home of Richard Branson without harm.
Branson reportedly confirmed to the AP that the fire broke out at about 4 a.m during a tropical storm. His son, Sam, states that everyone was evacuated safely, but that the house was “completely destroyed.”
The billionaire states, “Kate Winslet, her boyfriend and her family were there and Holly and some of her friends were also staying. My mother was there and they managed to get her out and she is fine.”
Sara Keene, the actress’s spokeswoman, confirmed that Winslet did in fact escape the fire unharmed. A devastated Branson commented on the loss of his home stating, “It's very much the Dunkirk Spirit here. We want to rebuild the house as soon as we can. We have a wonderful staff here and we want them to stay in work.”
