Katherine Heigl: The Doctor Is Out?
The doctor is in – for now. Grey’s Anatomy’s enigmatic blonde, Dr. Isobel Stevens, is returning to the show March 1, but People magazine speculates that her reappearance might be short-lived.
Katherine Heigl, who has played Stevens since the show’s 2005 debut, is juggling several film roles and the newly minted title of mother. Heigl and singer-songwriter husband Josh Kelley adopted special-needs daughter Naleigh from Korea in September, People reports, and took a three-month hiatus from the ABC drama.
One Grey’s source tells the mag “it wouldn’t be a shock” if Heigl permanently left the show.
Any departure plans have yet to be announced.
Heigl also took a five-episode break from Grey’s earlier this year to film the romantic comedy, Life As We Know It, People reports. The actress reportedly has five other films currently in development.
Heigl won the 2007 Best Supporting Actress Emmy for her role as Izzie, but tensions rose when she withdrew her name from Emmy consideration the following year.
The actress is slated to receive the ShoWest award for Female Star of the Year later next month, People says.
Will Grey’s fans stick around without the unpredictable Dr. Stevens? Stay tuned.
