Katie Holmes Is Out of the "Dark"

Katie Holmes stars in a new film, "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark."

Katie Holmes is finally back in the spotlight. Well, the Hollywood spotlight that is. After mainly gaining fame as Mrs. Tom Cruise and then being mom to Suri Cruise, Holmes will star in an upcoming thriller, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.

Guillermo del Toro, the director behind Pan's Labryinth and The Hobbit, will be producing and co-writing the horror.

Based on a 1973 ABC television show, the film, directed by Troy Nixey, features a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend, only to discover the house already belongs to someone else.

The 30-year-old actress is best known for her role as Joey Potter in the WB television series, Dawson's Creek, and last starred as Jackie Truman in the comedy, Mad Money.

According to E! Online.com, Holmes also recently finished filming the comedy, The Extra Man, starring John C. Reilly and Kevin Kline.

The film will kick off shooting this summer in Melbourne, Australia, says E! Online, and plans to open in 2011.
