Katie Holmes Returns in ‘The Romantics’
Every year, certain actors and actresses are unofficially named “stars” of the Sundance Film Festival. Some of the most talked about actors of this year’s festival are Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame, James Franco, and Ben Affleck. One of the most unexpected stars of Sundance 2010 is none other than Katie Holmes. Just like Stewart, Holmes premieres two films at this year’s esteemed festival. In her first film, she plays a supporting role in the Kevin Kline driven film, The Extra Man.
In The Romantics, however, the actress takes on the dynamic leading role of a young woman who must confront an old flame (Josh Duhamel) as well as the woman (True Blood star Anna Paquin) he chose instead of her. According to the Los Angeles Times, Holmes is said to be the best thing about the film. In particular, the article raves about one gripping scene in which Holmes’s character, Laura, and Paquin’s character, Lila, engage in an emotional clash in which their true feelings are revealed.
This is said to be the type of performance that could bring Holmes back into the spotlight as the talented actress that she is.
