Katy Perry, Russell Brand finalize divorce

By Athira Nair,

Katy Perry and Russell Brand have reached a settlement on their divorce.

The Associated Press reports that a judge granted the Teenage Dream singer and her soon-to-be ex-husband a divorce on Wednesday. The day before, Perry, who is cited in the judgment as Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, filed paperwork claiming that a "comprehensive written settlement of all issues" had been reached. The full terms of this settlement have not been released.

The judgment asks the court not to award spousal support to Brand, an actor and comedian. Furthermore, it claims that the former couple has reached an agreement on the distribution of property. Since neither Perry nor Brand have children, custody is not an issue.

According to People Magazine, Brand has also filed paperwork indicating that a comprehensive settlement has been reached and that the two are waiving their right to a trial.

Per California law, a divorce can be finalized only six months after filing. Accordingly, the divorce will be finalized on July 14.

Perry and Brand were married in October 2010 in India. Brand filed for divorce in December 2011, amidst rumors of a troubled marriage. In a statement, he wrote, "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."
