Kelly Preston Says "It's Too Soon to Talk About the Loss of Her Son"

Almost 8 months after the shocking death of her son, Kelly Preston is not ready to open up about his death.

This October, Kelly Preston was set to open up about the shocking and sudden death of her son at the California Governor's Conference for Women, but according to People, that has been put on hold.

The Governor's Conference is hosted by Maria Shriver, and Preston was going to talk on a panel titled "Grief & Resilience." It would be the first time she publicly spoke about the sudden death of her 16-year-old son. Jett.

In a statement made to People, Preston expresses her deepest apologies for pulling out of the event.

"It is with my sincere apologies that I must pull out from speaking at [the] conference. I am sorry, but I truly believed that I could do it. Otherwise I never would have said that I could. But I am still deeply in the process of healing, and it's just too soon."

Shriver had kind words for Preston after she pulled out.

"I know how hard it was for Kelly to make this decision and she has my complete support and understanding. Everyone has their own path to healing and their own timetable for grieving."

This month has been a hard one for Shriver. On August 11, her mother passed away, and her uncle, Senator Edward Kennedy, passed away on Wednesday.

"Kelly's presence at the Women's Conference will be missed, but the main stage conversation on grief and resilience with Elizabeth Edwards, Susan Saint James and myself will continue as planned. Having just lost my own mother and my uncle, I believe it's an important and meaningful subject because loss and grief will touch everyone at some point in their lives," Shriver goes on to say.
