Ken Burns on National Parks
Filmmaker Ken Burns' documentary "The National Parks: America's Best Idea" will air Sunday through Friday night. The documentary was written by Dayton Duncan along with Burns.
Burns' six-part series covers the creation of Yellowstone in 1872 to more than a century later.
The film pays tribute to those who were behind the making of the National Parks system. Another goal of the documentary is to inspire people to visit the wilderness.
Images in the film come from not only Yellowstone Park, but also Yosemite, Acadia and Denali.
The voice cast includes Tom Hanks, Sam Waterston, John Lithgow and Eli Wallach. The first two episodes cover years 1851 to 1915 and is narrated by John Muir.
Previously, Burns has directed documentaries such as "The Civil War" and "Jazz."
"The National Parks: America's Best Idea" took 10 years to make.
Burns' message from each of his documentaries remains the same, relaying to its audience to pay attention, listen and take notes.
