Was it fear of jail time?
A Houston television station reported Wednesday morning that Kenneth Lay, former CEO and chairman of Enron, died of a heart attack this weekend at his Aspen house.
The wire services picked up the story as a "report," but both CNN and the New York Times reference a statement by Lay's spokeswoman saying no further information would be released.
Lay and cohort Jeffrey Skilling were convicted earlier this year and are (or in Lay's case, were) expected to be given long prison terms for their involvement with the Enron collapse.
