Ken Ober Passes Away at Age 52
MTV is in mourning for the loss of Ken Ober, the man who thought of "Remote Control," MTV's first try at making an original TV series. The plot of "Remote Control" was that it was a media-obsessed game show hosted from his parent's basement. The show had thee contestants that had to answer questions about popular culture such as movies, music, and television shows, and the game show was constantly interrupted by humorous skits and guest appearances.
Ober was an incredible asset to MTV. His sense of humor was one that melded irony and pop culture, and that made him incredibly comical and easy to watch. Since "Remote Control" was aired before the Internet came into play, it was one of the only places were pop culture and comedy were blended. Ober's basement was home to the popular kids, and to the geeks, and it was what made MTV the television destination for kids and teens throughout America.
The MTV family and everyone who watched "Remote Control" will always remember him for being rambunctious and loud, and most importantly, he will be remembered for being amusing to watch.
