Kevin Smith's Cop Comedy Changes Its Title

The upcoming cop comedy from Warner Bros. originally called A Couple of Dicks has changed its title to Cop Out.
According to an article on Variety.com, “Director Kevin Smith revealed the name change last week before the Cop Out trailer began showing in front of Warner's Sherlock Holmes on Christmas Day. He told Entertainment Weekly the key reason for the switch was that the studio wanted to advertise Cop Out on sports programs but the major networks indicated they couldn't run ads prior 9 p.m. if the film was titled A Couple of Dicks.”

The film is set to open in February and stars actor Bruce Willis, Saturday Night Live alum Tracy Morgan, Sean William Scott, who played Bo Duke in the 2005 film remake of the popular CBS television series The Dukes of Hazzard, Adam Brody, who starred on Fox’s The O.C., ex-My Name is Earl star Jason Lee and Michelle Trachtenberg, who is currently starring on the NBC medical drama Mercy.

The Variety.com article goes on to say that, “Marc Platt's producing the project with Polly Johnsen and Michael Tadross. The scripting team of Robb and Marc Cullen penned the screenplay, centered on a pair of cops who track down a stolen baseball card, rescue a Mexican beauty and deal with gangsters and laundered drug money.”

It seems Warner Bros. acquired the project in a turnaround from the independent production company, Gold Circle Films, which had actor/comedian Robin Williams and James Gandolfini, who starred on HBO’s The Sopranos, attached to star.
