Nicole Kidman--who was set to play Ulla, the Swedish secretary, in the film version of the Broadway show "The Producers"-- has pulled out due to scheduling conflicts. Instead, she will finish up the filming of "Bewitched" and then start "Eucalyptus in her Native Australia, with some other natives such as Russell Crowe and Geoffrey Rush.
According to Kidman's representative, she did not have time to learn all of the dance routines and songs required for the musical. Filming for "The Producers" was supposed to start in April, but has been moved up to February. The shooting will take place at the new Steiner Studios in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
"The Producers" was originally a Mel Brooks film that got adapted for Broadway, and is now going back to being a film. The movie will star the original Broadway cast of Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Also starring in the movie will be Kidman's "Bewitched" costar Will Ferrell.
Right now, Kidman is a very in demand as an actress. After winning her Oscar, she has been in movie after movie, recently starring in "The Stepford Wives" and "Birth." She also has several projects in the works besides "Eucalyptus." She is supposed to star opposite her friend Crowe again in the film "Proof," and "The Lady from Shanghai" with director Wong Kar Wai.
