Kids' Choice Awards Nominations Announced
The nominees for Nickelodeon's 22nd Annual Kids' Choice Awards were revealed today, and it looks like Disney star Miley Cyrus is the one to beat.
The star of Hannah Montana received three nominations: Favorite Female Singer, Favorite TV Actress and Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie. The 16-year-old took home two Kids' Choice Awards last year, according to Variety.
However, the Los Angeles Times reports that Cyrus's latest photo scandal could cost her any wins. A picture of Cyrus and her friends making slant-eye poses recently hit the Web, offending many Asian-Americans. George Wu, the executive director of the Organization of Chinese Americans, has called for an apology.
Cyrus will compete against Alicia Keys, Beyonce and Rihanna in the Favorite Female Singer category. As for Favorite TV Actress, Miranda Cosgrove of iCarly, Selena Gomez of Wizards of Waverly Place and America Ferrera of Ugly Betty round out the nominees.
However, Cyrus is in decidedly different company in the Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie category. Veteran comedians Jack Black, Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller will compete with her for the orange blimp.
Major categories like Favorite Movie feature a mix of kiddie fare and films with more universal appeal. Superhero blockbusters The Dark Knight and Iron Man will go head-to-head with the Adam Sandler comedy, Bedtime Stories, and Disney hit High School Musical 3: Senior Year for this final category.
Other nominees include Jennifer Aniston (Favorite Female Movie Star), Chris Brown (Favorite Male Singer), The Jonas Brothers (Favorite Music Group), Michael Phelps (Favorite Male Athlete) and Danica Patrick (Favorite Female Athlete).
The "kudo/mess-fest," as Nickelodeon calls the awards show, will be telecast live on Saturday, March 28 from UCLA's Pauley Pavilion. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will host.
