Kiefer Sutherland Charged With DUI

Kiefer Sutherland was charged with two DUI misdemeanor counts on Friday in Los Angeles. Sutherland was found driving with a blood alcohol level higher than 0.08. Such a charge typically draws a low punishment, most likely probation, but Sutherland is still on probation from a 2004 incident. The actor was convicted in November 2004 for driving under the influence, and the law isn't going to let Sutherland slide a second time. A spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office stated: "Since he is still on probation from his 2004 DUI, we have also requested that the court revoke his probation and set a probation-violation hearing."

If Sutherland's probation is revoked, he could face six months in jail. His current charges hold a maximum one year jail sentence and a $1,000 fine. Sutherland was also charged with drunk driving in 1989 and 1993, and to both he pleaded guilty to lesser charge of reckless driving. His arraignment has been scheduled for October 16th.
