Kirsten Dunst to Star in New Sci-fi Movie
Kirsten Dunst will be starring in a new sci-fi movie, Melancholia
The former Spider-Man star was offered the part when Penelope Cruz decided to drop it in order to be in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Director Lars von Trier has officially announced that Dunst will play the lead role in Melancholia. The movie will start shooting in July to September in southern Sweden. It is about the wayward planet Melancholia that threatens the Earth with destruction.
A role in Lars von Trier’s movie wouldn’t be hard for the 27-year-old. Dunst has been a star since she was a child and has played in many movies including, her famous young role with Tom Cruise in Interview with a Vampire, and was nominated several times for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress.
Dunst is currently starring with Jim Sturgess in Upside Down.
Other cast members includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, Alexander Skarsgaard, Stellan Skarsgaard and Udo Kier.
The movie is scheduled to be released in 2011.
