Kristin Cavallari says her breakup with Jay Cutler wasn’t due to ‘love lost’

Kristin Cavallari announced via Twitter last week that after a broken engagement back in July, she was once again engaged to Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

The former Hills star wants to keep the cause of the split between the two of them, although it was reportedly because of “career differences and living situations.” She revealed, however, that during their time apart they had kept in contact and were still very much in love with one another.

"No one really knows what happened between the two of us, and we want to keep it that way," she told People at the opening of the Rebecca Taylor Boutique. "We broke up, and we were still talking during that whole time."

Cavallari assured that the breakup, though, wasn’t due to a change in feelings.

"We didn't break up because of love lost," Cavallari explained. "We loved each other just as much as we always did when we weren't together."

As they move forward planning their wedding, Cavallari, 24, admits that the time apart proved to be necessary in order for the relationship to grow stronger.

"Sometimes, in order for things to get better, they have to end – even if it's momentarily," she said. "And that was the case with us."
