'Kung Fu Panda' Racks Up At The Annie Awards

'Kung Fu Panda' sweeps the floor at the Annies.

According to Reuters, Kung Fu Panda won the top prize at the 36th annual Annie Awards, honoring animation. Kung Fu Panda won Best Animated Feature over Wall-E and Waltz With Bashir.

In addition, the DreamWorks Animated short, Secrets of the Furious Five, released with Kung Fu Panda on DVD, took home four Annie Awards in TV production and shortform categories. The video game version of Kung Fu Panda from Activision won the best video game Annie Award.

Since the Academy Awards founded the Best Animated Feature category in 2001, the Annie Award winner for best animated feature has gone on to win the Oscar for best animated feature except on one occassion. That was when Happy Feet won the Oscar, while Cars that year took the Annie. Cars was nominated for the Oscar.

Kung Fu Panda is nominated for best animated featurea the Academy Awards, but many would agree the favorite for that category is the Disney/Pixar film, Wall-E
