Kurt Cobain avatar for 'Guitar Hero 5' 'not okay'
The recently released 'Guitar Hero' video game, the fifth in the franchise has come under some criticism.
That criticism coming from Kurt Cobain's former band mates Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, not to mention from Cobain's Widow Courtney Love. The late Kurt Cobain, who committed suicide back in 1994, was the leader of Nirvana, one of the early 90's headlining Alternative bands. The band continues to have a huge following even though they broke up after his death, from both fans and musicians alike.
In the latest 'Guitar Hero', you can unlock Cobain as a secret character in the game, not only does he play Nirvana hits such as 'Smells like Teen Spirit' and 'Lithium' but also can play any song by any other band. This particular fact has caused an uproar.
According to TheAssociatedPress.com, "While we were aware of Kurt's image being used with two Nirvana songs, we didn't know players have the ability to unlock the character. This feature allows the character to be used with any kind of song the player wants. We urge Activision to do the right thing in 're-locking' Kurt's character so that this won't continue in the future."
Cobain's Widow, Courtney Love is also protesting against the game saying that the "likeness" of her former husband in the game and the fact he can play other bands songs in offensive.
