Kutcher Threatens Star Magazine with Legal Action
Ashton Kutcher has lashed out at Star magazine’s accusations that he cheated on wife Demi Moore. The 32-year-old has threatened to take legal action against the tabloid for defamation of character.
Star magazine published the story on Wednesday, claiming that the Punk’d star was spotted liaising with a "hot young blonde" at Madeo restaurant in Los Angeles. An eye witness was quoted in the story as saying:
"Ashton had this gorgeous girl pinned against the wall, and he was totally making out with her. I was shocked to see him sucking face with a girl who obviously wasn't Demi."
The actor blasted the accusations on Twitter Wednesday, writing, "I think Star magazine calling me a "cheater" qualifies as defamation of character. I hope my lawyer agrees... STAR magazine — you don't get to stand behind 'freedom of the press' when you are writing fiction."
Demi Moore stood by her husband on the social networking site, qualifying Ashton's defamation claims against the magazine by tweeting, "No question! Excellent point my love!"
Access Hollywood contacted Marty Singer, Kutcher’s lawyer, on Thursday. He referred to the report as "an absolute lie," and added that he and his client are "demanding Star issue a reaction and an apology."
Singer also stated that Kutcher did not attend the Los Angeles restaurant in July. If the magazine does not apologize, then Singer and Kutcher will review their legal situation.
Star magazine representatives say that the magazine will stand by their story.
