L.A. Film Critics Announce Winners of 2009

This afternoon, the L.A. Film Critics announced the winners for the year

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association announced the 2009 winners this afternoon. Winning the best film of 2009 was “The Hurt Locker,” which was a dramatic piece that focused on the Iraq war. The director of “The Hurt Locker,” Kathryn Bigelow, won for best director.

Other awards went to Jeff Bridges for best actor for his performance in “Crazy Heart,” where he portrayed Bad Blake, an out-of-date country singer. Best actress went to Yolande Moreau for her role as Seraphine Louis in “Seraphine.”

Best supporting actress was awarded to Mo’Nique for playing the abusive mother in “Precious,” and Christopher Waltz took best supporting actor for playing a Nazi officer in “Inglorious Basterds.”

“Fantastic Mr. Fox” won for best-animated film, just beating out “Up,” and “Summer Hours,” the French drama, was given best foreign film.

Christian Berger won best cinematography for his work on “The White Ribbon,” and best screen play went to Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turn for “Up in the Air.”
